New Series

Lights! Camera! Action! Join me and the cast and crew of Treasure Hunters 7 as we learn how to be the right kind of friend. Through the stories and examples found in the Bible, we will also learn how to choose good friends and how to be a good friend. We are rolling out the red carpet for you each week as we explore our new series: Entourage!

Lesson Goal: The children learned that they should be ready to help all people.
Main Point: Disciples of Jesus Help Others, Even if It Costs Us!
Memory Verse: “Our people must learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others…” Titus 3:14a (NLT)

This week was all about helping others. Our Bible story was from Luke chapter 10. Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan. The story begins with a Jewish man who was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho. He was attacked by bandits who robbed him, beat him up and left him for dead at the side of the road. A priest walked past him without helping him. Later that day, a temple assistant walked by without helping him. Eventually, a Samaritan came by on the road. In those days, Jews and Samaritans hated each other. The Samaritan had every reason not to help this Jewish man. However, instead of walking by, the Samaritan stopped and helped the Jewish man. He bandaged his wounds and put him on his own donkey and took him to an inn. He even paid the innkeeper to take care of the man. We should follow the Samaritan’s example and help people even when it costs us.

We had another visit from, Rock and Scooter who competed in the speed skating event. One of their opponents broke a skate during a time trial before the race. Rock said they should give their opponents a spare pair of skates. Eventually, Scooter agreed and they gave the spare skates to their opponent. The speed skating race was close, but Rock and Scooter lost. Scooter was discouraged until Rock explained that even though it cost them a victory, helping the other team was still the right thing to do.

Throughout this week’s lesson we learned that, to be true disciples of Jesus, we need to help others, even if it cost us.

Disciples of Jesus Listen and Obey!

Lesson Goal: We learned that we should put into action the things we learn from reading our Bible and coming to church.
Main Point: Disciples of Jesus Listen and Obey!
Memory Verse: “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise...” Matthew 7:24a (NLT)

This was the first week of our brand new series: Winter Extreme. This series will help us understand the character qualities we need to be true disciples of Christ. Our Bible story today was from Matthew, chapter 7. Jesus told the parable of the wise and foolish builders. Jesus said that anyone who hears His teaching and puts it into practice is like a wise builder who built his house on rock. Storms and floods come but the house on rock stands secure. He went on to say that anyone who hears His teaching but doesn’t put it into practice is like a foolish builder who built his house on sand. The storms and floods come and the house on sand is washed away. If our lives are built on the firm foundation of Jesus’ teachings, we will be able to handle the storms and problems of life.

We were also introduced to Rock Steadfast, a champion winter sports athlete, and Scooter O’Donnell, Rock’s biggest fan. This year, at the Winter Extreme X-Factor games, it’s a team competition. Unfortunately, Rock’s usual teammate wasn’t able to make it to the games this year. The only replacement available was Scooter O’Donnell, a bumbling fan with very little experience. The event we saw this week was the downhill skiing race. Rock took some time to teach Scooter how to ski. However, when it came time for the event, Scooter didn’t follow any of Rock’s instructions and they lost the race. Scooter showed us that it doesn’t make sense to listen to teaching and not put it into practice.

This week we started our Christmas series "Love Shines Thru". Johnny Rogers reminded us of the story of Mary. Though she wasn't expecting to have a child at such a young age, she decided to put her plans in God's hands. During our prayer time we decided to give our plans to God. What a great gift to give to God this Christmas.

Heroes are GENEROUS!

It was all about GENEROSITY this past Sunday! What an honor to be able to pack shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. Each child packed one box and put an "about me" letter in the box. If you would like to see the pictures, click here.

As God's children, we should always be listening for His voice.

Excellent job cadets, we did it again!!! Operation Sunblock is officially closed thanks to your excellent spy skills. This week, the secret code that the VLOBG didn't want us to find out was: I WILL HAVE PEACE WHEN I'M AFRAID BECAUSE GOD IS WITH ME!

During our spy training this week, we had to use our Decoder Ring to decode this weeks Bible verse. "But when I am afriad, I will put my trust in You." Psalm 56:3.

Are you a cockroach or a moth?

"What? I am a human being?!!" I know, I know. Well, this week in Graceland Studios, the Bug Man asked if we were a cockroach or a moth. Do we run away from the Light like cockroaches or do we go toward the Light, like a moth? So, I hope your answer to that question is, "I am a moth!"

Our Big Idea was lots of fun this week: "I ain't no cockroach". Our power verse told us that "if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us". What an awesome promise!!!!

Hey, Hey, Hey, Goodbye!!!

This past Sunday was bittersweet in Graceland Studios. We said "hello" to the upcoming Graceland Studio-ers, and "good-bye" to our AWESOME middle schoolers. As we have now started back to school, we looked through our back pack of school supplies to see what we can remember about God's love for us (ask your kids about that). Then we looked to A Snoodles Tale, my favorite story ever, to remind us of how God sees us. This year at school, we are going to put our back packs, remember all the cool things God has put in our "packs" and see ourselves and others the way God does.

I can't wait to see you this Sunday as we continue in our "Bugs" series. The Bug Man has another cool, creepy bug to help teach us a great big lesson!

Back to School!

What an exciting Summer we have had in Graceland Studios!!! We have been busy, busy with camp, Life School Musical, Water Day, and this Sunday, Promotion Sunday. A new school year is here, (wow, that was fast), and we are going to celebrate this Sunday. Everyone will be moving up to new small groups and our 6th graders will be moving up to the middle school ministry. So, be there this Sunday at 10 AM as we gear up for the new school year!
